Assessment of Prior Learning – Western International University

Assessment Of Prior Learning

Earn Credit For What You Have Learned Outside Of The Traditional Classroom!

Assessment of Prior Learning is a process to determine if learning achieved outside of the traditional classroom meets the requirements of academic equivalency for college-level credit toward your associate or bachelor degree.

Learning that is eligible for assessment review includes:

  • Professional training
  • Licenses
  • Coursework at non-transferable institutions
  • Experiential essays

Once you are fully admitted to Western International University (WIU), you will meet with your Academic Counselor to plan your program. At that time, you can seek advisement on possible credit opportunities for your prior learning experiences; however, there is no guarantee of credit as a result of this advisement.

Your Academic Counselor will provide you with complete information, requirements, and fees for submission and evaluation of your prior learning. Upon submission of your prior learning materials, a qualified faculty evaluator will be assigned to review and provide written feedback regarding the evaluation outcomes.

Additional fees apply for credit awarded through the assessment process. Financial Aid funds may not be used to cover assessment fees.

Assessment Timelines

The evaluation process can take up to twelve weeks. Students intending to satisfy graduation requirements using assessed credits should submit their materials several months in advance of their anticipated graduation.
