Veterans Administration Benefits & Forms – Western International University

Veterans Benefits & Forms

Welcome

Welcome to the Western International University (WIU) Office of Veterans Services.  We thank you for your service to our nation, and in consideration of the many sacrifices you and your families have made, we have designed special programs and features just for Veterans. We are also here to assist you in applying for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Education Benefits that may be available to you or your dependents.

To read more about what makes WIU a Veteran-friendly school, check out our Veterans FAQs Page for information about the various GI Bill Education Benefits for which you may be eligible, and also scroll down this page for guidelines and procedures for using your VA benefits at WIU.

Western International University: A Veteran-Friendly School

WIU has been designated by G.I. Jobs magazine as a Military Friendly School. This honor ranks WIU among the top 15% of all colleges, universities, and trade schools nationwide in terms of providing the best service and opportunities to embrace U.S. Military Servicemembers, Veterans, and their Dependents as students.

We are a Military Friendly School in the truest sense, and we are proud of the features that make us such:

  • Tuition Discounts — We offer tuition discounts for Veterans. We'll even guide you in applying for your GI Bill Education Benefits. Your Enrollment and Finance Counselors will provide you with personal attention and information based on your specific circumstances.
  • Flexibility — Perhaps you work full time, run your own business, or even suffer from a Service-connected disability. There’s a lot on your plate, and all of these situations can impact your ability to pursue your studies. At WIU, we understand your circumstances and have designed our programs to make it possible to maintain the continuity of your education and your learning community. You can attend class at any of our four Arizona campus locations, with WIU Interactive OnlineSM, or both. With WIU Interactive Online, you can attend class live with your instructor and classmates from wherever your Internet connection takes you, or view your recorded class any time during the week.
  • Credit Transfer Potential — WIU participates in the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) consortium, and we also work with Veteran students to grant transfer credit from the various Service schoolhouses (like the Community College of the Air Force [CCAF]) as well as other sources (CLEP, DANTES, and even Military experience credit). Learn more about the potential to gain transfer credit for your training and experience by visiting our U.S. Military Experience page. Of course, your Enrollment and Academic Counselors will guide you through the process and help you determine your full credit transfer potential.
  • Getting Started is Easy — At WIU, we do not require any kind of admissions testing or placement, and we give you the ability to start classes every month. These features complement the flexible, online nature of WIU’s programs.
  • Individual Learning — WIU programs do not require learning teams. This means you work independently, an approach that is ideal for the typical Veteran who may be unable to join in group efforts because of other commitments or disabilities.
  • Military Brochure — Illustrates our Military and Veteran Friendliness and provides you with detailed information about our school and our many programs.

The Next Step On Your Career Path: The Right Degree

WIU offers a variety of challenging degree programs (associate through master degrees and post-bachelor certificate) that are ideally suited to our nation’s Veteran students. Whatever your career goals may be, WIU has a program just for you. Please visit our Degree Programs page for information about the many programs we offer.

Applying for Your GI Bill Benefits as a WIU Student

Once you have submitted your formal application for admission to WIU, you may apply for VA Education Benefits. We will help you complete all the necessary paperwork and ensure that all VA guidelines are met so that you receive proper entitlement. Since VA benefits are paid directly to you, you will be responsible for payment of your tuition.

Formal application for admission to the University should be completed before applying for VA Education Benefits. Each WIU program, course, and location requires separate Arizona Department of Veterans' Services approval for the training of Veterans.

All Veteran students (oncampus and online) must complete the electronic WIU Request for Certification Form to certify courses for benefits. Upon clicking the Submit button, your completed form will be forwarded to the WIU Office of Veterans Services.

You must also complete the appropriate WIU VA Benefits Application Packet linked below and forward the completed packet to the WIU Office of Veterans Services:

Packet 1—First Time Benefit User - You have never applied for VA Education Benefits.
Packet 2—Renewing Benefit User - You have previously used or applied for VA Education Benefits.
Packet 3—Dependent First Time Benefit User
Packet 4—Dependent Renewing Benefit User
